Well, I've had the saddle for about a week now (in testing on the Anthem 29er, seeing whether the weight saving benefit outweighs the comfort or discomfort for that matter) 99gm of carbon, no padding, only that which is in the bib shorts. Happy to say that my ass has moulded to the shape and the initial discomfort has subsided with a few adjustments to the fore/aft and level of the nose (lack of a rivet here). The rails are oval and not round which means that a side clamping seat post will not work, so I've had to test with the Giant lay back post which I didn't particularly like (it was a bit short at 350mm). Thought I'd a better photo of the saddle but I don't (you can just make it out amongst the foliage). It will be transplanted to the new build in due course and shown off to the world...

The seat post clamp arrived the other day as well, it's a minimal carbon band with a bolt (that pretty much describes it) basic, but functional. Going to have to invest in some carbon assembly paste, don't want any dry joints.
Remember this project is utilizing a lot of bits that I have lying around, and one of the biggest weight penalties I'll have is a Rockshox Recon RL 100mm fork @ around 1800gms. The easiest way to recover the weight penalty was to sacrifice a bit of comfort... I'm aiming for sub 9.5kg, lighter would be nice :)
It isn't built yet?
ReplyDeleteNo, it sure isn't, hope to have it built by middle of August.
