I love boxes that have Chain Reaction written on them....

More goodies arrived yesterday from the handy online bike store known as Chain Reaction.

SRAM X0 10 speed Grip Shifter
Factory Effex frame protection film
Lizard Skin chainstay protector
Ritchey WCS Truegrip foam grips

So this morning I set about hanging things off the frame, I'd enough bits to start assembling the bike proper and I also wanted to see it with wheels on.  First things first though, get the undercarriage protected, 2 1/2" wide strip of frame protection from the BB assembly all the way to the head tube, easier done on a frame rather than a fully built bike.  Next to the internal cable routing, conveniently, plastic tubing had been run on all the internal cable runs, taped my gear cable outer to it and pushed it on through (never pull a cable if you can push it, especially if you don't want to spend the next 6 months trying to fish a cable through a carbon frame blind).  Job done, headset bearings, fork, stem, handlebar, top nut all installed, looking better. Grabbed 2 of my Stans Arch EX's, had to swap out the 15mm axle adapters for the 20mm for the Recon. Wheels on, time to take it outside, in the sunshine.  Next up handlebar furniture.

This is the right side as you can see, it's busy, actually very busy.  Remote lockout, Formula RX brakes and SRAM X0 grip shifter.  Problem that I'm encountering is that the RX's have a trail style lever as opposed to a flatter profile.  End result, if I need to grab the front brake in a hurry, the odds may not be on my side.  This is better depicted below looking at the front of the right hand side of the handlebar.

So in the interests of safety to me and all around me, I'm going to have to resort to Plan B which will be a SRAM X7 (which I've a couple of) 10 speed shifter hanging off the Formula RX's with the matchmaker handlebar mounts.  A pity, in practice the grip shifter is sweet.

  1. *** Update... I've got an XT Shadow+ rear mech on my Anthem, can't use the clutch as I've Rotor Q-Rings on the bike. And in my box of bits I've an old XT Shadow rear mech. So ditch the idea of SRAM, transfer the Shadow+ to the project, bought a Hope shifter mount clamp to allow an XT/SLX shifter I Spec to be attached to the brake leaver. Grab a 10 speed XT/SLX I Spec shifter from somewhere.
