1x10 if you make the wrong choice of chain ring it'll be painful on pocket and legs...

Unfortunately these days it's impossible to try before you buy, unless of course you know someone willing to sacrifice their hardware while you test out combinations of chainring/cassette to see what you legs can handle.  Again I looked to good ole eBay and saw an unused 32T Direct Mount chainring (specifically for SRAM cranks with removeable spiders).  Sitting at a ridiculous price of £0.99 with 1 bid.  I Can't let that bad boy get away from me, hammersnipe set up for automatic bidding, set my max at £10 and let it roll. Long story short, I won it for a mere £10 and a couple of quid for postage.

Not knowing whether a 32T up front would be light enough for the climbs or heavy enough for flats and straightline speed (pedaling like a hamster running on a wheel isn't appealing)  This seems like a good idea, the spend is minimal £12 or so delivered as opposed to £50 for a mistake and sitting with a white elephant. Crankset hasn't arrived yet, so the weight weenie measurements will take place next week.  I'll also update the total spend on the project as well.
